Democratic Presidential Hopeful Mayor Buttigieg Releases Housing Plan
Democratic presidential hopeful Mayor Pete Buttigieg from South Bend, Ind., recently released An Economic Agenda for American Families, which includes spending $430 billion on affordable housing measures.
Buttigieg’s plan intends to enable “more than 2 million more units of affordable housing to be built or restored using billions of dollars of investments in the Housing Trust Fund, Capital Magnet Fund, HOME and CDBG funds, and the Low Income Housing Tax Credit.” The plan includes investments of $170 billion to ensure that all eligible families with children receive Housing Choice Vouchers. The plan also speaks to working “with states and cities to reform local zoning laws to make it easier to build housing for working and middle class-families, and repair or replace deteriorated public housing stock.”
