Trump Nominates FHA Commissioner as HUD Deputy Secretary
President Donald Trump has nominated Federal Housing Administration Commissioner Brian D. Montgomery to fill the Deputy Secretary position at HUD. As HUD’s second-most senior official, Montgomery would manage the agency’s day-to-day operations and advise and assist HUD Secretary Ben Carson in leading the agency’s nearly 8,000 employees.
Montgomery has held the position on an acting basis since the beginning of the year, and also serves as HUD’s assistant secretary for housing in addition to his role at the FHA. As FHA commissioner, Montgomery is responsible for the management of the FHA’s $1.4 trillion mortgage-insurance portfolio. He is the first person to serve as head of the FHA twice under three different administrations.
